Entertainment company to hold film award ceremony |

An entertainment company disclosed that it will hold a
film award event with a view to fostering healthy
competition in the flourishing film industry in
Ethiopia.
In a press briefing the Award Organizing Committee gave , Communications and Press Director of the
Shankai Entertainment, Biruk Gebremedhin, said films
and professionals would be competing in the event to
be held under the title ''Abyssinia Film Award'' on 8th of May, 2006 in Addis Ababa.
Accordingly, best script writer, best director, best supervisor, best actor, best all-time award winner and
best documentary film, among others, would be awarded.The competition is for only Amharic films
produced and screened by Ethiopians over the past three years,he stated.
Biruk said the films would be rated by professionals from the Addis Ababa University as well as other
scholars from domestic and foreign higher learning institutions and professional who worked in the former
Ethiopian Film Corporation.

'Pop idol' fever sweeps Ethiopia |

Ethiopia is the latest country to be caught up in "Pop Idol" mania, as hopefuls of all ages audition every week to win the coveted title.
Contestants are encouraged to highlight Ethiopia's traditions Of the 2,000 people who registered for Ethiopian Idols, some 600 contestants have made it through to the second round. Although the Ethiopian version does not have official rights to use the Pop Idol name, the show has gained massive ratings for state-run TV and broken new ground in this rather conservative country.
